Triumph Update

I hope everyone's having an outstanding week!

Excellent game last Saturday! We played the Thunderbolts, a team that has beat us three times in a row over the last two years. Of course, we don't really keep score, right? :-) Congratulations to the Girls for playing so hard! I thought everyone played well and Jade did an amazing job as Keeper. I think this was her break-out game!

Sorry about the late cancelation on last Tuesday's practice. I thought we were going to be okay but when I checked the field it was extremely wet and mushy. And, on top of that, it was currently raining and getting worse. I'm sure the girls weren't too happy about the cancelation but I think it was probably a different story with the parents!
Our game this Saturday is at 9am on field 6D at the Harmony Sports Complex. We'll be the visiting team so we should be wearing our blue uniforms but please bring both colors. VUSA doesn't always do things the way we do in Camas-Washougal.

I know I've said this before but I want to say it again. We have a special group of girls and coaches! We have such a good time out there practicing and the games are a blast! I hope your daughter is having as much fun as Christina and me! It's very important to us that your daughter is having the best time possible. If you ever want to talk about anything, or if you don't feel I'm giving equal playing time to the girls, please feel free to come talk to me.

Believe it or not, Fall Soccer Registration begins in two weeks and I need to get a headcount on how many of the girls will be continuing with the Triumph. We've got a few girls that aren't playing Spring ball, that would love to return and play with us in the Fall again but I need to know how many are staying first. Please let me know ASAP.

Thanks,
Ben Yung

  Triumph Update

I hope everyone had an amazing Easter Holiday & Spring Break! It's time to pick the soccer balls back up again and start practicing tomorrow (Tuesday, April 10th). I'm so excited that we're into warmer weather now. I'm not one to complain but those first two weeks of the season were brutal! Kudos to the girls for hanging in there!

I'm hoping to have all of the girls at this practice for a couple reasons. First, we still haven't had a practice with all of the girls there yet. It really helps to have all of the players there so we can practice as a team. Second, I'm planning on getting some team pictures tomorrow.

A few things:
  • Please have the girls dressed in their white uniforms tomorrow. Since we're not doing an official team picture, these pictures are the best we'll get. Please also let me know, ASAP if there's anyone that can't make tomorrow's practice. if we have to put pictures off until next week, we can do that.
  • Pictures - I always encourage parents to take pictures of the games and practices, and email them to me, so we can post them on our Triumph Soccer Blog. It is also really difficult for me to get pictures of Christina in action. If you happen to get a good picture of her, please share. :-)
  • Snack - Has everyone received a copy of the snack schedule? If not, I've posted a copy to the link section of our blog. Please, again, remember to bring a somewhat healthy snack and nothing with nuts.
  • Coaching - I would like to thank Cahills, the Parmans and the Allens for helping with coaching at the practices, games, etc. I enjoy the interaction with the parents as much as with the kids and I always welcome the help.

Thanks,
Ben Yung

Triumph Update

Parents & Soccer Players,

What a crazy first week! Between the weather, trying to secure a field and getting everything up and running, it has been quite eventful! Please forgive me for this LONG post. The first one of the year is always the longest. :-)

Saturday's Game - I thought the girls did really well on Saturday, in our first game! The team we played was a U7 team that was playing up but it was a good first game for us. It was also a great opportunity for the coaches to watch and see what we need to work on. The girls were able to get out, run, score some goals and build their confidence. I'm really looking forward to the next 9 weeks!

Tuesday's Practice - we had a great practice on Tuesday but we were missing a few girls. I'm assuming it's because of the short notice and, perhaps, the weather. Please remember, wet & cold practices help prepare the girls for wet & cold games. I don't particularly like being out there in the cold, especially twice a week for both teams, but I think it's important that the girls practice rain or shine. We did have to call practice 10 minutes early because the temperature was dropping and it was getting pretty miserable but we still had fun and we were able to work on our ball handling skills & Coach Shawn worked with the girls on Keeper skills. Please remember to dress the girls warm next week for our game and practice. I felt that most of the girls were dressed warmly for the game on Saturday but not for the practice. I don't like to see them shivering out there. :-)

This Week - our game on Saturday is at 1:30pm at Danielson Field again. It looks like we're the visiting team this week so we'll need to be wearing the blue side of our jerseys. Please remember to bring the white side of your jersey as well, just in case, if you have the ones that are separate. We don't have a snack and drink schedule yet so I'd like to ask if Jades parents can bring it this week. Angie & Shawn, can you please confirm? The game on Saturday is likely to be much more competitive so lets be ready! Also, if everyone can arrive 15 minutes early, it'll give us a few minutes to go over a few things before the game.

Volunteers - as I mentioned last Saturday, I can use lots of help if you're willing and able. Here are the things I typically need help with:

  1. Coaching - Shawn (Jade's Dad) and Aaron (Maya's Dad) have offered to help. These guys are both excellent coaches and I'm really looking forward to working with them to give the girls the best experience possible. If anyone else would like to help, please let me know. I'm always open to more help.
  2. Snack & Drink Schedule - Angie Cahill offered to put this schedule together for us.  Note - we have at least one girl who's allergic to nuts (all nuts). Please try to keep the snacks somewhat healthy and please be sure they don't contain nuts or traces of nuts.
  3. Field Lining - the Dancu family has volunteered to line the field when we're the first team playing on the field on Saturdays. This requires them to get there 30 minutes before everyone else so I really appreciate their willingness to help with this!
  4.  End of Year Party - we may have a volunteer for this but I need to confirm. Please offer any suggestions. We used to have our party at Angelos Pizza but they've closed down and we need to find a new place to party. Lisa Allen has offered to have the party at her house if we decide that's what we'd like to do.
  5. Pictures - I need a couple people who are willing to take pictures of our games and practices for our team blog. Please let me know if you can help with this.

Thanks for your help,
Ben Yung

Triumph Update

Last Week - It sounds like our game went really well last Saturday. Great job girls! A special thanks to Coach Shawn for coaching and for all the time he's put in to helping us out this year!

Next Saturday - Our game next Saturday (October 29th) is scheduled for 11:00am at Skyridge Middle School. We'll be the Home team so our uniforms will likely be White. This is going to be a fun game for us because we're playing the CW Blast and there are two girls, that played with us up to last year, on their team and they're both outstanding players. I'd like to have everyone at the field, ready to warm up, by 10:45am. It's going to be a chilly day so please dress the girls accordingly.

Practices - We've only got 2 practices left. I would assume everyone's anxious to have their Tuesday & Friday evenings back (I know I am) but if we can hold out through this last week, I'd really like to have all of the girls there. We're still practicing at 5:30pm to 6:45ish, if we have enough light.

End of Year Party - Our party will be at Angelo's Pizza this year and we'll be meeting there (this Saturday) at 2pm. The Coaches will be handing out trophies and pictures. Each family is in charge of their own meal.

Trophies - Jean Leary has already received the trophies from Glory Days. If you haven't already, please pay her $8 to cover the cost of your child's trophy. Thanks again to Jean for handling the trophies and end of year party. Jean - how many years in a row have you done this for us now??

Tournaments - I guess the tournaments are all U9 and up, which is disappointing, so we won't be playing in any tournaments in November.

Spring Soccer - There has, however, been some interest in Spring Soccer. In the past, we've played indoor soccer because it's nice and warm and dry inside. From what I'm hearing, the preference is to play Outdoor Soccer this year. As much as I enjoy warmth in the winter & springtime, I would have to agree that Outdoor Soccer would be better for the girls. The game is so different inside (the balls look and feel different, the ball roll and bounce differently, there are no boundaries, and the rules are extremely relaxed. It's almost like teaching the girls a whole new game when we return to the outdoors in the Fall. So...no guarantees yet, but I'm considering it. I know I keep saying that I'm about done coaching but I'm addicted, what can I say?? One determining factor is how many of the girls want to do it. Please let me know ASAP, if your daughter is interested and I'll start digging into dates, costs, etc..

Pictures - If you've taken pictures, please get them to me by Wednesday (this week). If I have enough pictures, I'll put together a slide show and I'll try to get some of them on our Blog. As far as our Team Pictures, I should have them to hand out at our party on Saturday, I hope! :-)

See you all tonight at practice!

Thanks,
Ben Yung

Triumph Update

Last Weeks Game - Great game last Saturday!! I heard a couple comments from the girls, "They weren't that tough, they were easier than I thought they would be". I had to tell them, "no, they're a good team, you guys just played the game better than they did!" Congrats to the girls for working so hard, especially on defense!

Upcoming Game - Our next game is on Saturday at 2pm at the Harmony field again, where we played before. Let's meet there at 1:45pm so we can warm up and go over a couple things. We're playing the Lady Tigers again. They were a pretty good team. We may have scored one or two more goals than they did but it was close! Oh, by the way, we're the Visiting team so we'll be wearing dark blue for this game. ...and Jayden's family will be bringing the treats and drinks.

Snack Schedule - There has been one minor change to the snack schedule. The Dancu family will be bringing the snack & drink on October 22nd. Parents - please remember to bring snacks without nuts in them. We have at least one girl who's allergic to nuts.

Practices - A reminder to everyone that our practices are still on Tuesdays & Fridays from 5:30pm to 6:45pm. I know this is a tough time but the days are shorter and it's getting dark at 6:45 now. Also, I want to remind everyone that it's good for the girls to play in the rain (when it's not too cold of course). There's a really good chance that we'll have a game or two in the pouring rain. We haven't had a day, yet, that's been too cold. When the girls are running around, they're not likely to be cold. It's the coach and parents who are freezing! :-) Please dress the girls accordingly and try to have them there until we're finished. We won't ever go past 6:45pm.

End of Year Party & Trophies - Our end of year party will be held on the Saturday of our last game (October 29th) at 2pm, unless our game time changes. Thanks to Jean Leary for setting our party up. Trophies - Jean is getting ready to order the trophies and we'll be collecting a few dollars from everyone to cover the cost. I think they typically cost about $5 each (give or take a couple dollars). I'll let everyone know when we get them ordered and find out what the exact cost will be.

Thanks everyone!
