Triumph Update
Team Triumph & Parents,
Team Triumph & Parents,
It's been a while so I thought I'd add an update to the blog:
1st Half of the Season:
To be honest, the first half of the season was pretty brutal! It was hard to get everyone together for a practice the first few weeks, then we were trying to get to know each other, then we had to tactfully teach the girls to do less talking/laughing and more listening and then it seemed like the games were upon us! It was definitely crazy but we also had a lot of fun and I'd do it all over again!
I remember how confused the girls were in our first game, especially on defense, but they made a huge improvement between that game and the second. They have continued to get better with every practice, scrimmage & game. Most of the games were close and we never really took a bad beating. :-) Most of our games were within one goal. I'm extremely proud of the girls and how hard they've worked and how far they've come in just a couple months! We've got a great group of girls and they all seem to get along very well.
2nd Half to Present:
The second half has been GREAT! We've been able to relax on the coaching a little, during practices, and let the girls play more (in scrimmages and amongst themselves). They've enjoyed this and the playing time has been really good for them. Our game standings show that the girls have really come a long way, both with individual skills and as a team. In fact, we're undefeated so far in the second half. You can see our record on the same page as our game schedule. I think we're at the top of the pack right now with 2 wins and a tie in our last 3 games! Great Job girls!!
End of Year Party:
I'm still working with Shaunette to get this planned. I'll be on the East Coast the weekend after our last game (November 16th) and I've got games and parties for my other two kids over the next couple weeks, so we may end up having our party after I get back. As soon as we get this figured out, Shaunette will let everyone know what the plan is. Is anyone out of town on the weekend of November 9th or 23rd? If so, please let me or Shaunette know, ASAP.
Fund Raiser:
The league has asked us to help with a "end of season" fund raiser. This fund raiser is to help pay for the new turf for the Harmony Field. It will be sooo nice to have turf to play on! This fund raiser is a really easy one. They are asking that each player sell only 3 coupon cards for $20 each. Some of the parents, on my son's team, bought or sold the cards before they even left the field. Poor Grandparents and friends sitting on the sideline! :-) Shaunette will be passing the cards out at our next practice, if she hasn't already. If you're able to help with this, please get the cards sold and the money back to her, ASAP, so we can get everything turned back in to the league quickly. Thanks for heading this up Shaunette!
Thanks Everyone!

Player bins!
Hello parents... team mom here!
I tried to talk with all of you at the game on Saturday but I may have missed a couple of you! We are going to be doing player bins for the girls this year!! These are so much fun and the girls love them :)
I am buying the bins for the girls and I have the markers and puff paint to decorate them with. These bins are great for the girls to keep there soccer items in as well as give them a place to sit during the game with out having to sit on the wet muddy ground!
Please let me know via email shaunettebaker@yahoo.com or cell/text 360-773-6681 if you should not want one of theses bins for your daughter. They will be about $5-$10 each. We will be decorating them before or after the next practice.
Thank you!

Triumph Update
I have added our game schedule to the blog. Please look for it under the Important Links on the right hand side. I think it's labeled "Game Schedule - Fall 2013". Please be aware, this schedule may change. They're still making tweaks.
Snack Schedule - I'll be getting the snack schedule out this week. Any allergies we need to be aware of? Breanna's family will be bringing the snack/drink to our game this Saturday. Thanks Shaunette for offering to help. :-)
Last weeks practice - We had a great practice on Thursday. I had one of my buddies, who coaches High School and Premier Soccer, join us to help for a day and to provide input. The girls had to work hard but it was a great practice! Kudos to the girls for stepping up and working hard, while still having a great time out there! We have a great group and this is going to be such a fun year!
Pictures & Videos - I'd like to ask everyone to take pictures and maybe some videos of the girls, throughout the season, and I'll post them on our blog. We might also have a private group on Facebook where we can post them.
Practice this week - We're only practicing on Thursday this week. Next week we'll start practicing on Wednesdays and Thursdays. So...this Thursday at 6:15pm at Danielson Field.
Thanks everyone,
Ben Yung

Triumph Update
We had a good practice last Thursday! This was our second practice but the first with almost everyone there. I really like our group of girls! It's a different dynamic than in previous years. I think our experience level has decreased somewhat but I really like who we have. I don't think I've ever had a more wiggly, giggly group of girls. We'll try to somewhat control that but I'm sooo glad the girls have such a positive attitude and, most importantly, that we're having fun together!
This Week - NO PRACTICE THIS WEEK! Because many of the girls have "Back to School Night", we are canceling practice. Please have the girls practice on their own, so we can pick things back up next Thursday.
Future Practices - I keep getting asked if we're going to keep practicing on Thursday evenings at Danielson Field, at 6:15pm. This practice is pretty much set in stone and will not likely change. We will also be picking up a Wednesday evening practice starting on September 11th. This practice will be held at the fields behind the Doc Harris Stadium (where we've practiced when the girls were younger) and will be held at 6:30pm. Here's our regular practice schedule going forward:
- Wednesdays 6:30 to 7:45pm @ Doc Harris fields in Camas (beginning September 11th)
- Thursdays 6:15 to 7:30pm at Danielson Field (Washougal)
Please confirm that you've received this email and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. My priority is to make sure all the girls are learning the game of soccer, learning to problem solve and work as a team, learning leadership, and most importantly, that they're having a great time!
Thanks so much for your support and for allowing me the pleasure of coaching your wonderful kids!

Triumph Update
Parents,
Practices - we will have our regular Thursday practice this week at 6:15pm (at Danielson Field in Washougal). I am also considering a practice for next Saturday, because we've got our first game in a couple weeks and we haven't even had a good, well attended practice yet. We've had some Saturday practices in the past and they seemed to work out really well for everyone. Perhaps even better than practicing during the week, in the evening.
Beginning September 11th, we'll start practicing on Wednesdays, in addition to our Thursday practices. I've got Danielson Field reserved for that day as well but I'm hoping to find an available field in Camas to practice at, for those that live on the West side. No guarantees, but that's what I'm shooting for. FYI...we're not practicing on Wednesdays until the 11th because I'm working on my Coaching Certification. I figured it's about time I got that, since I've been coaching for 6 years now. :-)
Fall Prep Camp - If you haven't signed up for the Fall Prep Camp, it starts tomorrow morning at 9am. If you still need to register, please do so ASAP. Here's a link to the flyer: https://camaswashougal.korrio.com/files/2013/08/Fall-Season-Rec-Prep-Camp-2.pdf
By the way, our first regular season game will be on September 7th. I'll get the schedule posted as soon as I receive it.

Spring 2012 PicturesA special thanks to Rachel Craft for taking tons of amazing pictures throughout the season and sharing them with us. If anyone else has pictures they'd like to add, please shoot them over to me and we'll get them into the gallery. Enjoy!

I hope everyone's having an outstanding week!
Excellent game last Saturday! We played the Thunderbolts, a team that has beat us three times in a row over the last two years. Of course, we don't really keep score, right? :-) Congratulations to the Girls for playing so hard! I thought everyone played well and Jade did an amazing job as Keeper. I think this was her break-out game!
Sorry about the late cancelation on last Tuesday's practice. I thought we were going to be okay but when I checked the field it was extremely wet and mushy. And, on top of that, it was currently raining and getting worse. I'm sure the girls weren't too happy about the cancelation but I think it was probably a different story with the parents!

Our game this Saturday is at 9am on field 6D at the Harmony Sports Complex. We'll be the visiting team so we should be wearing our blue uniforms but please bring both colors. VUSA doesn't always do things the way we do in Camas-Washougal.
I know I've said this before but I want to say it again. We have a special group of girls and coaches! We have such a good time out there practicing and the games are a blast! I hope your daughter is having as much fun as Christina and me! It's very important to us that your daughter is having the best time possible. If you ever want to talk about anything, or if you don't feel I'm giving equal playing time to the girls, please feel free to come talk to me.
Believe it or not, Fall Soccer Registration begins in two weeks and I need to get a headcount on how many of the girls will be continuing with the Triumph. We've got a few girls that aren't playing Spring ball, that would love to return and play with us in the Fall again but I need to know how many are staying first. Please let me know ASAP.
Thanks,
Ben Yung

Triumph UpdateI hope everyone had an amazing Easter Holiday & Spring Break! It's time to pick the soccer balls back up again and start practicing tomorrow (Tuesday, April 10th). I'm so excited that we're into warmer weather now. I'm not one to complain but those first two weeks of the season were brutal! Kudos to the girls for hanging in there!
I'm hoping to have all of the girls at this practice for a couple reasons. First, we still haven't had a practice with all of the girls there yet. It really helps to have all of the players there so we can practice as a team. Second, I'm planning on getting some team pictures tomorrow.
A few things:

- Please have the girls dressed in their white uniforms tomorrow. Since we're not doing an official team picture, these pictures are the best we'll get. Please also let me know, ASAP if there's anyone that can't make tomorrow's practice. if we have to put pictures off until next week, we can do that.
- Pictures - I always encourage parents to take pictures of the games and practices, and email them to me, so we can post them on our Triumph Soccer Blog. It is also really difficult for me to get pictures of Christina in action. If you happen to get a good picture of her, please share. :-)
- Snack - Has everyone received a copy of the snack schedule? If not, I've posted a copy to the link section of our blog. Please, again, remember to bring a somewhat healthy snack and nothing with nuts.
- Coaching - I would like to thank Cahills, the Parmans and the Allens for helping with coaching at the practices, games, etc. I enjoy the interaction with the parents as much as with the kids and I always welcome the help.
Thanks,
Ben Yung

Triumph UpdateParents & Soccer Players,
What a crazy first week! Between the weather, trying to secure a field and getting everything up and running, it has been quite eventful! Please forgive me for this LONG post. The first one of the year is always the longest. :-)
Saturday's Game - I thought the girls did really well on Saturday, in our first game! The team we played was a U7 team that was playing up but it was a good first game for us. It was also a great opportunity for the coaches to watch and see what we need to work on. The girls were able to get out, run, score some goals and build their confidence. I'm really looking forward to the next 9 weeks!
Tuesday's Practice - we had a great practice on Tuesday but we were missing a few girls. I'm assuming it's because of the short notice and, perhaps, the weather. Please remember, wet & cold practices help prepare the girls for wet & cold games. I don't particularly like being out there in the cold, especially twice a week for both teams, but I think it's important that the girls practice rain or shine. We did have to call practice 10 minutes early because the temperature was dropping and it was getting pretty miserable but we still had fun and we were able to work on our ball handling skills & Coach Shawn worked with the girls on Keeper skills. Please remember to dress the girls warm next week for our game and practice. I felt that most of the girls were dressed warmly for the game on Saturday but not for the practice. I don't like to see them shivering out there. :-)
This Week - our game on Saturday is at 1:30pm at Danielson Field again. It looks like we're the visiting team this week so we'll need to be wearing the blue side of our jerseys. Please remember to bring the white side of your jersey as well, just in case, if you have the ones that are separate. We don't have a snack and drink schedule yet so I'd like to ask if Jades parents can bring it this week. Angie & Shawn, can you please confirm? The game on Saturday is likely to be much more competitive so lets be ready! Also, if everyone can arrive 15 minutes early, it'll give us a few minutes to go over a few things before the game.
Volunteers - as I mentioned last Saturday, I can use lots of help if you're willing and able. Here are the things I typically need help with:

- Coaching - Shawn (Jade's Dad) and Aaron (Maya's Dad) have offered to help. These guys are both excellent coaches and I'm really looking forward to working with them to give the girls the best experience possible. If anyone else would like to help, please let me know. I'm always open to more help.
- Snack & Drink Schedule - Angie Cahill offered to put this schedule together for us. Note - we have at least one girl who's allergic to nuts (all nuts). Please try to keep the snacks somewhat healthy and please be sure they don't contain nuts or traces of nuts.
- Field Lining - the Dancu family has volunteered to line the field when we're the first team playing on the field on Saturdays. This requires them to get there 30 minutes before everyone else so I really appreciate their willingness to help with this!
- End of Year Party - we may have a volunteer for this but I need to confirm. Please offer any suggestions. We used to have our party at Angelos Pizza but they've closed down and we need to find a new place to party. Lisa Allen has offered to have the party at her house if we decide that's what we'd like to do.
- Pictures - I need a couple people who are willing to take pictures of our games and practices for our team blog. Please let me know if you can help with this.
Thanks for your help,
Ben Yung

Triumph UpdateLast Week - It sounds like our game went really well last Saturday. Great job girls! A special thanks to Coach Shawn for coaching and for all the time he's put in to helping us out this year!
Next Saturday - Our game next Saturday (October 29th) is scheduled for 11:00am at Skyridge Middle School. We'll be the Home team so our uniforms will likely be White. This is going to be a fun game for us because we're playing the CW Blast and there are two girls, that played with us up to last year, on their team and they're both outstanding players. I'd like to have everyone at the field, ready to warm up, by 10:45am. It's going to be a chilly day so please dress the girls accordingly.
Practices - We've only got 2 practices left. I would assume everyone's anxious to have their Tuesday & Friday evenings back (I know I am) but if we can hold out through this last week, I'd really like to have all of the girls there. We're still practicing at 5:30pm to 6:45ish, if we have enough light.
End of Year Party - Our party will be at Angelo's Pizza this year and we'll be meeting there (this Saturday) at 2pm. The Coaches will be handing out trophies and pictures. Each family is in charge of their own meal.
Trophies - Jean Leary has already received the trophies from Glory Days. If you haven't already, please pay her $8 to cover the cost of your child's trophy. Thanks again to Jean for handling the trophies and end of year party. Jean - how many years in a row have you done this for us now??
Tournaments - I guess the tournaments are all U9 and up, which is disappointing, so we won't be playing in any tournaments in November.
Spring Soccer - There has, however, been some interest in Spring Soccer. In the past, we've played indoor soccer because it's nice and warm and dry inside. From what I'm hearing, the preference is to play Outdoor Soccer this year. As much as I enjoy warmth in the winter & springtime, I would have to agree that Outdoor Soccer would be better for the girls. The game is so different inside (the balls look and feel different, the ball roll and bounce differently, there are no boundaries, and the rules are extremely relaxed. It's almost like teaching the girls a whole new game when we return to the outdoors in the Fall. So...no guarantees yet, but I'm considering it. I know I keep saying that I'm about done coaching but I'm addicted, what can I say?? One determining factor is how many of the girls want to do it. Please let me know ASAP, if your daughter is interested and I'll start digging into dates, costs, etc..
Pictures - If you've taken pictures, please get them to me by Wednesday (this week). If I have enough pictures, I'll put together a slide show and I'll try to get some of them on our Blog. As far as our Team Pictures, I should have them to hand out at our party on Saturday, I hope! :-)
See you all tonight at practice!
Thanks,
Ben Yung

Triumph UpdateLast Weeks Game - Great game last Saturday!! I heard a couple comments from the girls, "They weren't that tough, they were easier than I thought they would be". I had to tell them, "no, they're a good team, you guys just played the game better than they did!" Congrats to the girls for working so hard, especially on defense!
Upcoming Game - Our next game is on Saturday at 2pm at the Harmony field again, where we played before. Let's meet there at 1:45pm so we can warm up and go over a couple things. We're playing the Lady Tigers again. They were a pretty good team. We may have scored one or two more goals than they did but it was close! Oh, by the way, we're the Visiting team so we'll be wearing dark blue for this game. ...and Jayden's family will be bringing the treats and drinks.
Snack Schedule - There has been one minor change to the snack schedule. The Dancu family will be bringing the snack & drink on October 22nd. Parents - please remember to bring snacks without nuts in them. We have at least one girl who's allergic to nuts.
Practices - A reminder to everyone that our practices are still on Tuesdays & Fridays from 5:30pm to 6:45pm. I know this is a tough time but the days are shorter and it's getting dark at 6:45 now. Also, I want to remind everyone that it's good for the girls to play in the rain (when it's not too cold of course). There's a really good chance that we'll have a game or two in the pouring rain. We haven't had a day, yet, that's been too cold. When the girls are running around, they're not likely to be cold. It's the coach and parents who are freezing! :-) Please dress the girls accordingly and try to have them there until we're finished. We won't ever go past 6:45pm.
End of Year Party & Trophies - Our end of year party will be held on the Saturday of our last game (October 29th) at 2pm, unless our game time changes. Thanks to Jean Leary for setting our party up. Trophies - Jean is getting ready to order the trophies and we'll be collecting a few dollars from everyone to cover the cost. I think they typically cost about $5 each (give or take a couple dollars). I'll let everyone know when we get them ordered and find out what the exact cost will be.
Thanks everyone!

Triumph Update
Well, we made it through our first game. Barely! :-) Between the heat, being short handed and not being in game shape, the girls were pretty wiped out. I was extremely happy with the way the girls played! The team we played is one of the better, if not the best, teams we'll play all year. We were able to hang with them and we were even ahead in goals (even though we don’t count J) in the first half, until we ran out of gas. I was really concerned that the girls were getting too hot in the last quarter so I tried to let them play it out the best they could, without yelling at them to get back on defense. I was very close to calling it early but I'm glad I didn't because, after talking with everyone at yesterday's practice, it sounds like everyone was okay. No signs of heat stroke or anything. Yikes, it was a hot one and the official didn’t allow for any resting at all on the dead balls!
Yesterday (Tuesday) we worked on moving off of the ball (spreading the field and positioning), field & ball awareness (getting back on Defense before getting beat by the offense), listening and keeping an ear out for the coach and direction, and we worked on Goalie skills (stopping the ball, guarding and protecting the ball & ball throwing technique. We were actually able to squeeze a lot into last nights practice, even though it seemed like time ran out fast! I like to have more games during our practice (fun) but we had a lot to go over after our first game.
Practice - this week we'll be practicing on Friday instead of Thursday. Practice will be from 5pm to 6:30ish. I'm happy to announce that we've added Delaney Clark back onto our roster and she'll be practicing with us this Friday. Depending on what everyone's schedules look like, we may do a couple more Friday practices so Delaney can get used to playing with us and vice-versa. She's a very sweet girl, loves soccer and I know the girls will enjoy having her play with us. And...it'll be nice to have another player on our roster!

Please have your daughter use the restroom before leaving the house. We’ve had to cut our already short practice time, even more, for potty breaks and it really hurts us!
I want to reiterate how important it is that we know, in advance, if any of the girls will be missing games or practices, when possible. Most importantly for games, we've got a short roster and if two or three girls are sick or can't make it, we won't have enough players to play. We'll have Delaney, starting on the 24th, and that will help, especially since me and Christina will be out of town on that Saturday!
Forms - if you haven't gotten the Medical Release form and/or the Sportsmanship form to me yet, I need them by the end of practice on Friday. We got lucky last week. The Official asked me if I had all my paperwork ready and I said yes. He took my word for it but I guess they'll be checking paperwork and rosters before each game, especially when we're playing out of league teams at the Harmony Sports Complex.

As far as the game and practice pictures you guys are taking, please email them to triumphsoccer@gmail.com so I can add them to the blog.

I hope everyone's having an outstanding holiday weekend! I have a few things I'd like to communicate:
- I've made a couple updates to the blog. I've updated the title picture and I've added our schedule (the first three games) to the link section on the right hand side. They are still working on the schedule so there is still a possibility that the existing schedule might change. The final schedule should be out soon but at least we know when and where our first game will be. Next Saturday at Skyridge Middle School (11am).
- I'd like to thank the following parents for volunteering their time:
- Shawn Cahill - for volunteering to assist me for the 4th year in a row!
- Angie Cahill – for putting our team snack/drink schedule together, and for helping, on occasion, with teaching the girls better technical skills.
- Heather Haase – for volunteering to take photos of our games and practices
- Jean Leary – for volunteering to organize our end of year party and trophies.
- I'd like to remind everyone to become a follower of our Team Blog. The blog will be our primary source of communication. If you become a follower, you'll receive an email every time there is an update.
- I need ALL parents to go to the following link, print the last three forms, sign the Sportsmanship and Concussion Forms and bring them to the next practice. Here's the link – https://sites.google.com/site/cwscsoccer/forms
- There have been a few questions on the uniforms. The uniforms can be purchased at Glory Days in Camas. They are navy blue and reversible. It would be nice to have matching shorts and socks but it's not required. Also, numbers on the uniforms aren't necessary until next year.
Please call or email me if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Tuesday's practice.
Thanks,
Ben Yung
