Last Week - It sounds like our game went really well last Saturday. Great job girls! A special thanks to Coach Shawn for coaching and for all the time he's put in to helping us out this year!
Next Saturday - Our game next Saturday (October 29th) is scheduled for 11:00am at Skyridge Middle School. We'll be the Home team so our uniforms will likely be White. This is going to be a fun game for us because we're playing the CW Blast and there are two girls, that played with us up to last year, on their team and they're both outstanding players. I'd like to have everyone at the field, ready to warm up, by 10:45am. It's going to be a chilly day so please dress the girls accordingly.
Practices - We've only got 2 practices left. I would assume everyone's anxious to have their Tuesday & Friday evenings back (I know I am) but if we can hold out through this last week, I'd really like to have all of the girls there. We're still practicing at 5:30pm to 6:45ish, if we have enough light.
End of Year Party - Our party will be at Angelo's Pizza this year and we'll be meeting there (this Saturday) at 2pm. The Coaches will be handing out trophies and pictures. Each family is in charge of their own meal.
Trophies - Jean Leary has already received the trophies from Glory Days. If you haven't already, please pay her $8 to cover the cost of your child's trophy. Thanks again to Jean for handling the trophies and end of year party. Jean - how many years in a row have you done this for us now??
Tournaments - I guess the tournaments are all U9 and up, which is disappointing, so we won't be playing in any tournaments in November.
Spring Soccer - There has, however, been some interest in Spring Soccer. In the past, we've played indoor soccer because it's nice and warm and dry inside. From what I'm hearing, the preference is to play Outdoor Soccer this year. As much as I enjoy warmth in the winter & springtime, I would have to agree that Outdoor Soccer would be better for the girls. The game is so different inside (the balls look and feel different, the ball roll and bounce differently, there are no boundaries, and the rules are extremely relaxed. It's almost like teaching the girls a whole new game when we return to the outdoors in the Fall. So...no guarantees yet, but I'm considering it. I know I keep saying that I'm about done coaching but I'm addicted, what can I say?? One determining factor is how many of the girls want to do it. Please let me know ASAP, if your daughter is interested and I'll start digging into dates, costs, etc..
Pictures - If you've taken pictures, please get them to me by Wednesday (this week). If I have enough pictures, I'll put together a slide show and I'll try to get some of them on our Blog. As far as our Team Pictures, I should have them to hand out at our party on Saturday, I hope! :-)
See you all tonight at practice!
Thanks,
Ben Yung

Last Weeks Game - Great game last Saturday!! I heard a couple comments from the girls, "They weren't that tough, they were easier than I thought they would be". I had to tell them, "no, they're a good team, you guys just played the game better than they did!" Congrats to the girls for working so hard, especially on defense!
Upcoming Game - Our next game is on Saturday at 2pm at the Harmony field again, where we played before. Let's meet there at 1:45pm so we can warm up and go over a couple things. We're playing the Lady Tigers again. They were a pretty good team. We may have scored one or two more goals than they did but it was close! Oh, by the way, we're the Visiting team so we'll be wearing dark blue for this game. ...and Jayden's family will be bringing the treats and drinks.
Snack Schedule - There has been one minor change to the snack schedule. The Dancu family will be bringing the snack & drink on October 22nd. Parents - please remember to bring snacks without nuts in them. We have at least one girl who's allergic to nuts.
Practices - A reminder to everyone that our practices are still on Tuesdays & Fridays from 5:30pm to 6:45pm. I know this is a tough time but the days are shorter and it's getting dark at 6:45 now. Also, I want to remind everyone that it's good for the girls to play in the rain (when it's not too cold of course). There's a really good chance that we'll have a game or two in the pouring rain. We haven't had a day, yet, that's been too cold. When the girls are running around, they're not likely to be cold. It's the coach and parents who are freezing! :-) Please dress the girls accordingly and try to have them there until we're finished. We won't ever go past 6:45pm.
End of Year Party & Trophies - Our end of year party will be held on the Saturday of our last game (October 29th) at 2pm, unless our game time changes. Thanks to Jean Leary for setting our party up. Trophies - Jean is getting ready to order the trophies and we'll be collecting a few dollars from everyone to cover the cost. I think they typically cost about $5 each (give or take a couple dollars). I'll let everyone know when we get them ordered and find out what the exact cost will be.
Thanks everyone!

Triumph Update
Well, we made it through our first game. Barely! :-) Between the heat, being short handed and not being in game shape, the girls were pretty wiped out. I was extremely happy with the way the girls played! The team we played is one of the better, if not the best, teams we'll play all year. We were able to hang with them and we were even ahead in goals (even though we don’t count J) in the first half, until we ran out of gas. I was really concerned that the girls were getting too hot in the last quarter so I tried to let them play it out the best they could, without yelling at them to get back on defense. I was very close to calling it early but I'm glad I didn't because, after talking with everyone at yesterday's practice, it sounds like everyone was okay. No signs of heat stroke or anything. Yikes, it was a hot one and the official didn’t allow for any resting at all on the dead balls!
Yesterday (Tuesday) we worked on moving off of the ball (spreading the field and positioning), field & ball awareness (getting back on Defense before getting beat by the offense), listening and keeping an ear out for the coach and direction, and we worked on Goalie skills (stopping the ball, guarding and protecting the ball & ball throwing technique. We were actually able to squeeze a lot into last nights practice, even though it seemed like time ran out fast! I like to have more games during our practice (fun) but we had a lot to go over after our first game.
Practice - this week we'll be practicing on Friday instead of Thursday. Practice will be from 5pm to 6:30ish. I'm happy to announce that we've added Delaney Clark back onto our roster and she'll be practicing with us this Friday. Depending on what everyone's schedules look like, we may do a couple more Friday practices so Delaney can get used to playing with us and vice-versa. She's a very sweet girl, loves soccer and I know the girls will enjoy having her play with us. And...it'll be nice to have another player on our roster!

Please have your daughter use the restroom before leaving the house. We’ve had to cut our already short practice time, even more, for potty breaks and it really hurts us!
I want to reiterate how important it is that we know, in advance, if any of the girls will be missing games or practices, when possible. Most importantly for games, we've got a short roster and if two or three girls are sick or can't make it, we won't have enough players to play. We'll have Delaney, starting on the 24th, and that will help, especially since me and Christina will be out of town on that Saturday!
Forms - if you haven't gotten the Medical Release form and/or the Sportsmanship form to me yet, I need them by the end of practice on Friday. We got lucky last week. The Official asked me if I had all my paperwork ready and I said yes. He took my word for it but I guess they'll be checking paperwork and rosters before each game, especially when we're playing out of league teams at the Harmony Sports Complex.

Team Pictures – I’ll be making an announcement shortly on our picture day (professional team picture). It’ll be shortly before or after one of our upcoming games. As far as the game and practice pictures you guys are taking, please email them to triumphsoccer@gmail.com so I can add them to the blog.

I hope everyone's having an outstanding holiday weekend! I have a few things I'd like to communicate:
- I've made a couple updates to the blog. I've updated the title picture and I've added our schedule (the first three games) to the link section on the right hand side. They are still working on the schedule so there is still a possibility that the existing schedule might change. The final schedule should be out soon but at least we know when and where our first game will be. Next Saturday at Skyridge Middle School (11am).
- I'd like to thank the following parents for volunteering their time:
- Shawn Cahill - for volunteering to assist me for the 4th year in a row!
- Angie Cahill – for putting our team snack/drink schedule together, and for helping, on occasion, with teaching the girls better technical skills.
- Heather Haase – for volunteering to take photos of our games and practices
- Jean Leary – for volunteering to organize our end of year party and trophies.
- I'd like to remind everyone to become a follower of our Team Blog. The blog will be our primary source of communication. If you become a follower, you'll receive an email every time there is an update.
- I need ALL parents to go to the following link, print the last three forms, sign the Sportsmanship and Concussion Forms and bring them to the next practice. Here's the link – https://sites.google.com/site/cwscsoccer/forms
- There have been a few questions on the uniforms. The uniforms can be purchased at Glory Days in Camas. They are navy blue and reversible. It would be nice to have matching shorts and socks but it's not required. Also, numbers on the uniforms aren't necessary until next year.
Please call or email me if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Tuesday's practice.
Thanks,
Ben Yung
