October - Week 4

Triumph Update

What a fun day of soccer! Despite the rain, very player on the team scored a goal and everyone had a blast! I'm so impressed with how far the girls have come this year!

I want to thank Aaron Parman for getting the girls started this morning and the Parman family for bringing the snack. Everyone has done a great job with the snacks this year and I know the girls appreciate it! I also want to thank Angie Cahill for planning our end of year party and Jean Leary for ordering our trophies.

Next weeks game is at 11am on field 6. We are the home team so we'll be wearing white for this game. We won't have a snack for the last game because we'll be getting together after the game for our end or year party. We're all meeting at Burgerville in Camas at 12:30pm (next Saturday after our last game).

Please send me ALL of the pictures you've taken this year of the girls. I know there are some that haven't been sent because they were single pictures of your own daughter. I need them for our end of year slide show that I'll be putting together this week (if I have enough pictures)! If you've taken pictures with a camera that's not digital, I have a scanner.

Trophies - we should know how much the trophies are going to cost this week. My guess is that it will be about $5 each. I'll send out an email to everyone and let you know so we can have everyone chip in.

One last thing - there were some umbrellas switched at the game by accident. Please check your umbrella and  if you have the wrong one, please bring it to the game next Saturday and exchange it for the right one. I think there were two blue umbrellas that got mixed up today.

Thanks,
Ben Yung

October - Week 2

Triumph Update
Our game tomorrow is scheduled for 11am on Field 6. Please have your daughter bring her own ball to warm up with.

The snack will be provided by the Leary family this week.

This week we worked on moving off of the ball and better postiioning to receive a pass. We also worked on defense and defending the area around the goal. We then had a couple of scrimages on Wednesday with a group of 6 year old boys and then the 5 year old girls that handled us pretty well a couple weeks ago. Our girls played REALLY hard and did very well against both of these teams and pretty much dominated the whole time. They did a great job of practicing the things we learned on Tuesday and I really feel that they're ready for tomorrow's game! Great job Girls!

Please let me know if your daughter isn't going to make practice. We only had three girls on Tuesday and the same number for most of Wednesday's practice. It's really hard to practice with only three girls. If the level of interest drops, we may go back to one practice a week. I know 5:30pm is a tough time for all of us but if we still want to have these practices, we need to have everyone there if possible.

Next week is our week for a double header. We have a game at 9am and another at 11am. We're going to have some tired girls by the second game so I hope everyone can make it.

Thanks everyone - we'll see you tomorrow morning at 11am! :-)

September 23, 2010

I am so proud of the girls! We worked on a few different things this week but really focused on kicking the ball and getting some power behind it. The girls have been very receptive and they really made a lot of progress. We'll continue to work on this and we'll probably work on some of the more technical things this coming week, such as throw-ins and self placement, off the ball, on offence and defense.

Ice Cream Cones - I promised the girls ice cream cones. If it's okay with everyone, I want to shave 15 minutes off of one of our upcoming practices for a quick run  to Top Burger for ice cream. I'll follow up with you on that.

Game Time - our game this week is at 9am on field #6. The Allen family is in charge of the snack for this Saturday.

Pictures - I see lots of pictures being taken but I haven't received many. Please keep forwarding pictures to me. I'd like to post some on the blog and start a collection for the end of year slideshow.

One of the girls on our team is allergic to nuts. Please consider this when buying snacks for the team. We'd also like to keep the snacks somewhat healthy if possible.

Shawn Cahill - thank you for your continued help with the team. Shawn stepped in on Tuesday while I was resting after a sleepless night at the hospital with my son.

Thanks for your help and support!

Pictures - Saturday, September 18th at 9:45am @ Crown Park

Our team picture is tomorrow morning at 9:45am at Crown Park! Please let me know ASAP if you can't make it for some reason. I asked around at our last practice and it sounds like everyone that was at the practice is available this Saturday. Please find the order form attached to the email I just sent out to everyone and let me know if you have any difficulty opening it. They have asked that we have the forms filled out and ready to go with a check if you are ordering pictures. I tried to get us in before the game so we're not all wet and sweaty.

Our game is at 11am at field 6 again this week. They are asking for parent volunteers to ref the games instead of having the coaches do it. Please let me know if you'd like to volunteer. Also, if you haven't yet turned your sportsmanship and medical release forms in - please bring them to Crown Park and give them to me prior to the game. I'm still missing a couple!

We'll see you tomorrow morning (9/18) at 9:45am!

Thanks,
Ben Yung

cid:image003.png@01CB5E25.67B97780Triumph - September 7th, 2010
We're planning on practicing tomorrow, rain or shine. We'll be scrimmaging in preparation of our first game, coming up this Saturday, September 11th, at 11am. If your daughter can't make Tuesday or Wednesday's practice, please let me know ahead of time so we can prepare for it. I'm hoping to have all six girls at both practices.

I've posted a link to our game schedule on the triumphsoccer blog at triumphsoccer.blogspot.com. There is one day where we have a  double header. I'll make sure to remind everyone the week before but please be sure to add that to your calendar. Also, please become a follower of our blog so you can receive email updates when something is posted. We're going to be posting pictures and news at they come in. Also, please keep the pictures coming. We'll use them for our blog and also for a slideshow at the end of the year if I can find the time to put it together. :-)

The Parman's have emailed everyone a snack schedule. Please plan on bringing a snack and a drink on your scheduled day. If for some reason you can't bring a snack on your day, please trade days with someone else, ahead of time, and notify the Parman family so they are aware of the change. If, for some reason, you can't bring a snack this year, please let me know and we'll work it.

Uniforms - if you haven't purchased one yet, please do it this week because our first game is this Saturday.

We're going to continue to practice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 5:30pm at Doc Harris. We'll keep this schedule as long as the daylight allows.

We'll see you all tomorrow,
Ben Yung

If you can't beat the sprinklers, join em!

August 31st will probably go down as the funnest practice of all time. The sprinklers came on twice, causing everyone to run for their lives! Since there wasn't any room left on the field for us to practice, we decided to make the best of the situation and join the sprinklers on the field. A special thanks to the Parman family for sending this photo in with a few others. Please keep them coming. I'll try to get more posted soon.

First Practice & Parent/Coach Meeting

First off, I want to apologize for the confusion on our practice times/days. We had at least one parent and child show up at the field on Wednesday for practice.

Here is what we decided on, collectively, last Tuesday when we met at the practice:

  • We will try practicing twice a week instead of once (Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 5:30pm)
  • Shawn Cahill has volunteered to be our assistant coach (I'll gladly accept help from anyone else who is interested in helping out with the girls)
  • Nichole Parman has volunteered to organize our snack & drink list and remind us of our upcoming duties
  • Angela Cahill has volunteered to organize an end of the year party
  • Everyone offered to chip in on taking pictures for our team blog ( http://triumphsoccer.blogspot.com/ ) and sending them to me at triumphsoccer@gmail.com
  • I will manage the blog by adding announcements & pictures as they come in
  • We have a full roster this year so the girls won't be so tired. :-)  Please have your daughter at as many practices as possible and let me know if she's going to miss a game.
Two things I forgot to mention:
  • We have two mandatory forms, attached to this email, that I need everyone to print, sign and bring to our next practice.
  • I talked about uniforms in one of my previous emails but I didn't mention the rest of the uniform which is shinguards, blue shorts and socks, and cleats. It's not the end of the world if they have white socks. :-)
  • We will practice rain or shine. We had a few practices, last year, where only a few girls showed up. THESE PRACTICES ARE FUN FOR THE KIDS! Really, as long as it's warm out, they love it!
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Ben Yung

Fall Soccer 2010

Dear Parents,

We're about to start fall soccer and I'm excited for the opportunity to coach the girls again this year! First, I want to make sure everyone has been receiving emails from CW Soccer. If you haven't, please let me know. At this point, everyone should be working on the following items if you haven't taken care of them already:

1) Each child needs a uniform. If you don't have one yet, it can be purchased at Glory Days Sports in Camas. Glory Days also carries shorts, shinguards, sweatshirts, etc.

2) The girls will need shinguards and I would strongly suggest that they have their own ball so they have one to practice with, both at the practices and at home.

I guess there may also be some used uniforms available at 360 Threads (formally ClothsTime) in Camas. The uniforms must be the CW Mini uniforms with the blue/white reversable shirt.

As far as practices go - it is suggested, by the league, to have one practice per week. So...I think we're going to try for Tuesdays at 5:30pm to start. As we lose daylight, we'll have to make adjustments to the time.

Practices will last between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how things are going. Please let me know if this time is a problem for any of you. I know it's difficult to find a time that is perfect for everyone but I'll do my best to find a time that works for everyone.

Volunteers - to ensure the best experience for your child, I would like parents to help out in any way they can. Obviously some will be more available than others but I need someone who can take pictures of the girls at games and practices, someone who can organize snacks and drinks, someone who can organize the end of year party, etc. I always appreciate it when parents are willing to get out on the field with us at practice time as well. It helps the kids to learn and also gives me the opportunity to get to know you better. I'm a people person and I'll likely talk your leg off! :-) Please let me know how you would like to help, preferably before next Tuesday so I can announce any remaining needs for help.

I'm sure there is much more to tell you so please be on the look-out for more emails. We'll start practices this Tuesday, August 17th, and games start on September 11th. This Tuesday, we'll start out with a quick meeting with the kids, parents & coaches.

Thank you in advance for your help and support. It's going to be an amazingly fun year for all of us!
